Stripping The '80s
May 5, 2006

The Go-Gos' Jane Wiedlin re-recorded "Our Lips Are Sealed" and Rick Springfield revamped "Jessie’s Girl" for a compilation of acoustic versions of hits from the era of 'Just Say No.' Due May 30 via Sidewinder Music, "80s Hits Stripped" also boasts newly recorded versions of"Only the Lonely" by the Motels, "She Blinded Me with Science" by Thomas Dolby," "Promises Promises" by Naked Eyes and "867-5309/Jenny" by Tommy Tutone.

There's good reason for the disc, according to those who took part. Wiedlin calls the Go-Gos smash "fundamentally good at the core – the lyrics and the melody are strong enough to be performed most any way and it will still sound pretty cool. I am so pleased and so proud that something that sprang straight from my heart resonated.” (FYI - We love Jane. Remember her as Joan of Arc in 'Bill & Ted'?)

The set is rounded out by versions that were either found on rare bsides or imports. We're talking the Outfield, Billy Idol, Berlin and more. Details are at sidewinder-music.com. Does this have you feeling nostalgic? If so, check out the '80s era"Stop the Madness" video on YouTube. In addition to WhitneyHouston (!), New Edition, LaToya Jackson and Toni Basil, look for cameos by Stacy Keach, Casey Kasem, David Hasselhoff and Arnold Schwarzenegger, among others, including the mother of 'Just Say No,' Nancy Reagan.
