FAN REVIEW:
I need to say, I am not crazy about Rick's hair in this...I guess I'm just not big on 80's hair in general.
Loved the head mic, I kind of wish he'd wear one more now, and not just when he goes off stage.  I only in the last year or so actually realized what a really good guitar player Rick is, and I've been asking myself why I never really noticed this before and after watching this video I think I know why.  He seemed to use it more as a prop than a musical instrument a lot of the time.  So maybe that's the impression I carried with me.  He seems to actually play it more now.
Don't Walk Away:
Rick really needs to have a guitar in his hands
Alyson:
guitar enters the picture, love the way it starts out with him sitting on the speaker, he made the guitar look weightless (hey, I wonder if he could do that for me).  Loved the way he slapped on the guitar with his palm, loved it when he was down on his knees.
Living in Oz:
It was kind of weird to hear this song so early in the show, so used to hearing it during the encore now.  He still does that same move of pointing to his head/brain during the "dreams of grandeur" line.  He wasn't much of a guitar thrower back then as far as getting them off the stage, he used to slide them across.
Affair of the Heart:
Loved the way he did the back bend while hanging on the mic.  He did a very similar move during the video for the song when he was standing in front of the girl.
Human Touch:
Interesting use of the "ET" symbolism.  I liked the way he was wearing the video outfit during the show, and definitely liked the opening pose.  Anyone else notice the "pole lean" he did?  It wasn't on a pole, but something similar.  And Apparently, he's always had a violent attitude toward Roses because he takes one from someone and he kicked it.  If only he'd had a guitar in his hand, he may have started the whole rose explosion thing a decade earlier.
My Father's Chair:
Very Touching.  I remember seeing him perform this song in concert on the piano, it was very touching then, too
Jessie's Girl:
Loved the interaction between Rick and Tim Pierce.  He really made this song hot, which I guess can be an important thing to do when you know you are performing a song that you know is possibly overplayed on the radio, you gotta shoot some life into it somehow and he definitely does that. The way he says "it feels so dirty" and then when he's down on his knees behind Tim.  He actually throws the guitar up in the air at the end of the song and catches it!
Bop til you drop:
I wonder where Jack White was during this tour.......Rick has a portable hand mic, not sure what prompted that change.  Seemed to be having fun riding that machine.  I don't remember seeing that at the show I went to.
DTTS:
Interesting to see this song with no cell phones.  Then when he does the "baby don't" while he's on is knees.......wow.
Love Somebody:
He starts it off "a not so wise man once said"......give yourself a little credit Rick.
Souls:
Wow.....Wow......someone needs to remind him of this particular performance and see if he can recreate it.  Starts the song off crawling on his hands and knees up to the mic.  Great performance of this song.  The one thing that I found just a little cheesy was the "smell of the skin" move where he put the two fingers under his nose.
Stand Up:
What a great song to end the show with.  Loved it when he kind of did the splits.  And the song ended with that great smile.

I noticed all of the leg kicks that Rick did back then and it made me realize that in the last concerts I have seen him in he doesn't do nearly as many kicks as he did just 3 years ago. Wonder if he has injured himself?

Either they were toweling him off and styling his hair frequently or he SURE didn't sweat as much back then.

Hair - a mullet with streaks! Gotta love it for the time!

Nice shoulder pads on the jacket. They seemed even more obvious when he was doing his fists and shoulder shakes! He almost seemed like he didn't know what to do with himself without a guitar in his hands. Not sure if he usually did or not prior to the Karma tour. But when he took off the black jacket he had some pretty nice shoulders so now I'm not sure just HOW big the shoulder falsies really were!!!

Loved the tight blue pants!

I got a kick out of him laughing when he almost fell off of the moving stage prop and really admired the cartwheel.

Loved when they filmed him with a breeze blowing his hair back.

The video when he wore the hat briefly - what was with the hat hair? But he looked so young and SOOOOO sexy in that same section when his hair looked wet!

Touched by My Fathers Chair with Rick playing the piano. You could tell the audience loved it, too, but seemed to feel almost as if they were invading his privacy...I have felt that way when he sings the song, too.

Rick, tight blue pants, sweaty, singing, writhing on the stage floor. Does it really get much better than that? Okay, maybe if he was doing it on MY floor...but that is about it!

First of all, where'd this title come from? Anyone know?
I was not as crazy about this live concert video as I was Live & Kickin'. Notice I said "was". Now that I own this on DVD I've gone bonkers over Rick once again. Once I got past the "it's so clear" thought running thru my head
for the first 15 minutes or so, I was lost in 1985.

I'd forgotten how cool the starting was with Don't Walk Away. There's The Man, in all his handsome glory just standing there with the remote mike, nothing in his hand. It's definitely not an image Springfield fans had seen
prior to this concert tour, nor since. His hair is tousled in that oh-so-cool 80's mullet mixed with the red highlights. Then he's doing his best to dance, which looks kind of like a stagger with a few shoulder shrugs thrown in for good measure. It totally makes me want to stand up in my
living room and start screaming like the 16 year old I was back then. Between that swagger dance & the leg kicks tossed in throughout the show it's no wonder all the girls left the place a little insane.

I know this was taped in Tucson, Arizona, but I wonder how many nights footage were recorded. Also, I'm pretty sure the blimp & fire effects along with the "spirit" floating overhead were all added into the footage in the
editing room. If they weren't it sure was a damn good show! I picked up on the fact that this was taken from a couple of shows as the third time watching it in two days (yep, I'm addicted) I was playing "find the pick". I
never realized how many guitar picks Rick went thru in a show until the Karma tour and I actually had the opportunity to be up at the stage where Rick looks larger than life rather than in the back forty where he looked like an ant. Watch closely, and you'll see Rick performing Houdini tricks years before EFX! There's the pick...no pick now, he's just bangin' away on the strings...ooops there's a pick in his hand again! Considering he was
standing way out on the platforms that extended out into the audience a couple of times the picks disappeared & reappeared - I don't think he was that sleight of hand and pulled a pick out of somewhere...:-) So good editing job guys, whomever you are.

The videos from Tao are a wonderful break in the action, however I would've enjoyed just seeing more live footage. I know Rick did more than 12 songs per show on this tour! I'm glad they left in the video footage with My Father's Chair - just like he did it live. I remember seeing this live in Detroit, and his voice actually cracked a couple of times during the song. A lot of people around me thought maybe his voice was just tired because of the strenuous tour, but we all know better now :-). He also thanked our audience
for sitting so quietly through the song. I just remember being awestruck at seeing pictures of his family & his past.

Ok, my favorite part on this video (and you know I was going to get to this, didn't you) is Souls. OH. MY. GOD. Rick Springfield...rolling, writhing, whispering...all over the stage. The ab-sol-ut-ely most awesome performance
of this song. The best part about the DVD?? You can pick exactly what song you want to go to without rewinding/fast-forwarding. If you could wear out a
DVD, guess which part would get worn down on mine?? Speaking of which, I gotta go cue mine up now...going thru withdrawals.

Appearance: Love the pants! I didn't mind the long shirt/jacket thing... well, except for the 'long' part. lol! I thought the Human Touch jacket was a nice touch... really brought together two of the elements of his music (the music, and video). The sleeveless shirts were fine... but I didn't care for the hair. I suppose if I had seen this back in the 80's I would have liked it. But I didn't get a hold of a copy of this video till 1999 (yikes!).

Great sound! His voice sounded really strong... was this touched up, or was it strictly from the live performance?

The man needs a guitar!!!!! I guess I'm just *not* a fan of Rick's dance moves. The kicks are fine... but the rest of it? lol! (I guess that just goes to show that I really *am* in this for the music. :)) Maybe I would have liked the dancing and dramatics in BOTLD more too if I'd seen it back in the 80's... don't know. But I really wasn't fond of stuff like the big head (was that from oz?), the fake looking pyrotechnics, the floating spirit thing, etc...

I liked that he incorporated the new (for that time) videos. Did he actually do that in concert too? Was that his rest time... his towel off the sweat and primp time?

MFC: Beautiful. I enjoyed the photos in the background, but what I really loved was seeing Rick at a piano... and the song... <sigh>... just beautiful. :)

JG: Why is he grabbing Tim's shirt? Love the guitar toss and catch at the end. :-)

The robot thing... <rolls eyes>... not sure what that's all about, but I thought it was really cute when it jerks and it catches Rick off guard. :) Oh, and I *love* the look at the end of Bop Till You Drop.... actually I'm not really wild about BTYD, but I enjoyed it here. Maybe it's the *live* part of the equation that made me like it?

DTTS: Cute flip! lol! I really expected Rick to have the crowd echo him singing DTTS, and I expected IGE as the next song! lol!

Souls: I *love* this song... but what's with the crawling? lol! I loved the sequence where Rick is playing the guitar and the big fans are blowing his hair around. :) Very enjoyable. :)

Oh and I really liked Stand Up too. That's another song that I don't necessarily love, but it was great in the live performance. :)

O.k. I watched the entire show... and although I opened this by saying I didn't care for this video much, I *really* liked watching it. :) Though I thought it was corny at times, it was really very enjoyable. :-)

I have to admit that I am not as into BOTLD as much as the more recent videos.  I think it's because it's too big, and a little too staged. I know, it's a rock concert...LOL! It was nice to see some of the things from the 80's shows up close.  I was always so far away that I didn't get to see his facial expressions, except on the big screen above the stage.     I love the music videos that are interspersed throughout the concert footage.  I think it was a very well arranged.  I liked his performance of the songs.  And I've always felt that he performs "My Father's Chair" very intimately.  I really respect him for the courage to share that song from his heart every time.  I've never seen or heard it performed when it didn't give me the same feelings I had when I first heard it.   Probably the only thing that I really didn't enjoy, was the shots of the crowd.  I found them to be annoying.  I don't know why.
