When I think back about Rick Springfield from the early 80's, the look Rick had in this video is actually what comes up in my mind.  The dark, black, absolutely perfect hair.   The parachute jump suit.  I guess this wasn't an Earth shattering video, but I always liked the song so much that I guess when the video would come on, I was excited about it because the song came with it.  I like the way he lurks in the shadows.  I think the part I like the most is when he and the band members are performing with the police cars.  I've just never been able to figure out what the police car thing was all about.

This is the first video that I felt was worthy to have Rick Springfield in it.  I know JG and IDEFY were shot on small budgets and in the infancy of the video age, but they just did not seem to showcase Rick properly. DTTS made him seem larger than life....putting him in places only a rock star had a right to be.  I loved how they superimposed Rick's face looking over the bright lights of the big city....very impressive.  And the shot when he was under the table running his hand up her leg...now come on..who did not LONG to be that girl?  I am also not totally sure about the police cars....I thought it was maybe because she seemed like a very young girl and the other man was very old.  They were in front of a hotel...maybe they were caught by the police because she was a minor.  All I know is that Rick looked very cool standing on top of those cars....kind of rebelling against authority.

This is the video that did it for me!  I remember being teased by MTV for about a week with just snippets from this video until they World Premiered it. Gosh, I miss those days!  A Rick video at the top of every hour...

Now, I already loved this song on the radio, so having a great video to go along with it was the icing on the cake!   Rick in that jumpsuit - humina!  And why is it that he's the only guy I know that looks good in one of those?  I remember guys in my high school trying to emulate that look, and man, they just looked like a bunch of mechanics or something.

I think they were purposefully making the "girl" look young in the video by following the lyrics "When you were just a young girl and still in school"   although with Rick following her around like that, he looked like a stalker!   Thank goodness that wasn't quite a "word" in '82 like it became later.    So the police cars were there either for the fact that she was underage in a hotel room with that older guy, or heck, Rick was stalking her!  Personally I'm sticking with the theory that the red & blue flashing lights just made Rick look more like a hunk!  And then putting him up ON the police car...well hey - he can be my delinquent anytime!  And those shoes he had on, one day I was at the mall and bought a very similar pair.  I swear, I was so not into shoes until I started noticing Mr. Springfield's footwear.  Purple & pink converse anyone?

I found it strange though, that the beginning sign language bit was cut out of the video..I didn't even know that footage existed until Platinum Videos came out later!
