Oh my
goodness, I remember this sooooo well. The first time I saw Jessie's Girl was on
lunch over at a friend's house. I grew up in the country and we didn't have cable.
<oh, the pain!!> On lunches we would walk to her home and eat lunch while
watching MTV. I loved watching all the videos. You can imagine how exciting I
was to finally see the Jessie's Girl Video. I was enthralled with it and I could
barely take my eyes off of Rick the whole time. I was watching him on GH but this
seemed to really settle my huge teenage crush on Rick. I remember thinking how
forceful he smashed the guitar into the mirror and I loved him in the scene where Jessie
and the girl are together and Rick is watching them. It just made the song come
alive and I wanted to reach in the tv, give him a hug and kiss. <blushing!> I think this video was great for Rick's first attempt. It did as others did ~ it told the song's story and it cemented Rick's popularity with the millions of us. =O) My first viewing of this one was on
the Platinum Video's tape. Man was I broadcast challenged or what??? I did watch Night
Tracks and those shows a lot, but it was after most of the earlier Rick Vids were played
on there! I don't think I really even "saw" the video the first couple of
times I watched it. I saw Rick Springfield, that was IT. I couldn't have answered a single
question about what else was in or happened in the video. He DID know how to work the
camera with his eyes and he had me GLUED to them.:o) I don't really have a clear recollection of when I saw this for the first time, or what I thought. I was a huge watcher of MTV when it debuted, but that was a couple of years later, so I don't even remember what type of programs were playing videos back then. I do remember watching Night Tracks and Friday Night Videos, but I don't remember this video being something I saw a lot. Watching now, it's interesting to see the image that Rick chose to project. He's in a normal colored suit, instead of the crazy colors he came out with later. I actually think, for the money that was spent, it's a decent video. He sure knows how to play to a camera, in every way, so the acting was coming in handy, just in time for the boom of the video age. Ok, my turn! I remember seeing this
the 1st day MTV aired. Yep, I do. Don't ask me how old my brother is, or what the heck I
gave my kids for breakfast yesterday, but I do remember this. I was one of those
"lucky" kids who had cable and pretty cool parents. My dad and I watched the
premiere of MTV, and |
