Imagine
(John Lennon)
Originally recorded by: John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
And no religion too,
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one

Last night as I was working late, I had my computer speakers on and Imagine was playing.  I try to turn the volume off when people walk by but one of our  lawyers walked by without my seeing him coming and as he walked by my desk he says, "Awww....John Lennon" and he keeps walking.  I didn't correct him, and I think that is the best review possible.  LOL

But, to elaborate further, I love that Rick chose to cover this song considering all that is going on in the world.  Granted, John Lennon's version is legendary, but Rick does do justice to this song and the fact that he is clearly singing this song from his heart  makes this a song on TDAY that I can not and will not skip.  If only that message could be heard and understood by all.....maybe someday.

Imagine is a rather tough song to review, simply because Lennon created such magic with this song. I will have to start by saying this.....no one could out-do the original in my opinion. With that being said, Rick did a fantastic job covering the song. I heard him say he was leery about covering Imagine, because it is so special and well-loved by many. The fact that Rick is such a huge fan of Lennon makes his cover even more special for me. I would love to see Rick and McCartney get together on this one! That would be the ultimate.

Rick puts a lot of feeling into this one....I can hear the passion in his voice. I like the raspy, husky way he sings it also. I am glad he took the chance and did a cover for it. It's one of the greatest songs of our time, in my opinion. Imagine is a timeless song about peace and love, and it never grows old for me. Rick covering Imagine only adds to the joy I feel when I hear it. I think this was a perfect pick for his CD, since the Beatles were/are such a major influence in his life and music. So much of Rick's music does remind me of the Beatles, and always has.

I must admit, when I first saw this on the list of songs that were included, (before I heard it), I was a little worried.  This song, in my opinion, is a classic.  You just don't mess with it.  It struck me like Stairway to Heaven.  Why would you cover this song?  I know that Rick is seriously skilled and if anyone can do it he can, but I WAS worried.  I thought, the repercussions, man.  I hope he doesn't screw this one up.

Then I hear it.  Rick blew me away.  WHEW.   He didn't mess it up.  He kept it true to its form, and added just enough Rick to make it his.   This is another tearjerker.  Thanks Rick!

Great job on this one! *clap~clap~clap* A big thanks to Rick for keeping this one so true to the original.  I am not a fan of the Beatles by far (they were before my time) however, I do not particulary care for an artist to cover a song and rip it to shreds. I definitely like Rick's vocals on this song better than I liked John Lennon's on the original.

I believe this was an awesome choice (and an interesting one) for Rick to include this renowned piece on a CD that he considers his favorites and ones he wishes he had written.  It is indeed a wonderfully written ballad and really makes you stop and think.  I know in my daily life, I always like to stop and "Imagine" all sorts of things that get my brain spinning.
One of the best things about this song is that it's sweet and "to the point"~ Say what you gotta say, and get on with it!  I love it.
