Storyline: Chance takes a job protecting a man and his family from what he is told is someone after his business, but finds out he's been lied to and the man is being sought after by a loan shark.
Fan Reviews:
At the start of the show, Chance is a minister who is shot during a sermon. It isn't known to the viewer at that instant that this man is Chance. At first I thought, my gosh, how horrible. These men came into this church and shot this old man in a wheelchair, a priest none the less, dead. Then, this priest gets up and says, "What's the matter Amigos? You don't believe in resurrection?" The priest runs out of the church and tackles one of his attackers. The attacker asks, "Who are you?" as his knife cuts into the priests face. It turns out the face is a mask.
Chris Chance then rips it off and says, "Christopher Chance."
The next scene, Chris climbs aboard a spaceship that looks as if it has come from outer space. There are people aboard this ship. Chris asks, "What's next?" The others aboard the ship try to convince Chris that they deserve a vacation after working for two years straight. One of them asks, "Where to?" Chris replies, "I don't care. Get me up in the clouds where I can
think."
That to me signifies that Chris must have some crazy past. He obviously does this as a means of running from something. There is something that drives him.
Jay Palmer comes aboard the ship. Chance interviews Jay to find out background information on him. Jay is worried about his family and his own life. Although Jay's case looks shady, Chris thumbs through a photo album, looks at pictures of Jay's wife and children, and decides he is taking the case.
There was a Rick moment in this episode, as I can find in almost all of Rick's works. There is a mark he always leaves on anything he ever does: Chris asks Jay if he has any hobbies or what kind of music he likes. Jay says, "My wife likes jazz and classical, but I'm still partial to Rock and Roll." Chris smiled. A lil bit 'o' Rick Springfield in that moment. I love that.
Then comes the moment of truth, Libby introduces Mr. Palmer to Mr. Palmer. Christopher Chance was now ready to assume his undercover role and rid Jay Palmer of his demons.
Chris steps into Jay's life and is noticeably different to Jay's family after a short while. Jay's children and his wife like this "new Jay better". He is more attentive and not so selfish. Christopher Chance does communicate with Libby and Jay via some sort of visual device to get help and information along the way.
Some burglars enter the house and begin fighting with Jay (actually Chris in disguise.) During the struggle, Chris is dangled over the fire and his mask begins to melt, which scares the burglars. Just then Jay's family come down the stairs and wonder what is going on and wonder why Jay's face is falling off. Chris rips off the rest of the mask and says, "Wait I can explain." Jay's family is very upset and the wife, Margaret, wants this intruder out of her house. Chris is forced to tell the family of this plan for him to assume Jay's life to figure out who these bad people are, that are trying to kill Jay and his family.
It turns out that Jay has misled and deceived Chris as to who is after him. Jay brought this on and owed these folks money. I do believe that Chris knew that something was shady from the very beginning, but he chose to take this case for the family, not Jay's benefit. Chris is able to save Jay and his wife a number of times throughout the show.
The episode ending is in my opinion, unresolved. IT just leaves far too much unanswered. Jay and Chris, both acting as Jay confront this shady loan shark with offers of money and his company to repay this debt and leave them alone. The 2 Jay's and the bad guys all battle it out with gunfire and blowtorches. Then fast forward to Chris saying goodbye to Jay's family and
going back into his ship. IT is a crappy ending that I guess maybe is supposed to leave you wanting more, but to me it doesn't. The only thing I liked about it is seeing Rick on the TV. The case just didn't seem over and he is leaving. It is a story without the ending.
